Welcome

Hi! Thanks for stopping by. I’m a writer, editor, professional coach, and youth advocate. I’m drawn to the things that make life complicated. If you don’t want to talk about it, chances are, I want to write about it.

More About Me

I'm the Senior Executive Editor at Farrar Straus Giroux Books for Young Readers, an imprint of Macmillan Children's Publishing Group, where I acquire and edit books for children and teenagers. I teach a workshop in Author Care offered to all Macmillan employees, and I am a founding member of the MCPG Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Community Committee.

I am also an essayist and playwright with work published in Salon, Glamour, The Huffington Post, Parents Magazine, Publishers Weekly, and Lilith. My essay "My Mother, the Imposter" received first place in the Award for Excellence in Writing about Seniors category through the 42nd Annual Simon Rockower Awards for Excellence in Jewish Journalism.

Through my small business, Joy Peskin Professional Coaching, I provide professional coaching with a personal touch. I have a particular a passion for the following sorts of clients: young folks just starting out, those looking to make a mid-career pivot, and anyone interested in taking steps toward their vision of workplace success.

Currently a CASA (court appointed special advocate) for a teen in foster care, I have volunteered with people from underserved communities—including young adults experiencing homelessness, youth in the juvenile justice system, and women in prison—for the past twenty-five years.

A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Vassar College with a degree in sociology, and of the Rutgers University Leadership Coaching for Organizational Performance Program, which is accredited by the International Coaching Federation, I also have a certificate from the Radcliffe Publishing Course.

My first sentence was, “Dog chase cat up tree.”
